Save the date, crypto-enthusiasts! The most anticipated Blockchain Technology summit is back with a bang this year!
Hosted by popular news website, CoinDesk, Consensus 2018 is their fourth annual conference that is scheduled to be held on May 14- 16 at the New York Hilton Midtown. This time round, Consensus 2018 will also be co-hosted by the New York Economic Development Corporation.
From financial institutions to technology giants, industry startups to investment firms, academic institutes to policy groups, developers to enterprising tech leaders, journalists to entrepreneurs- The three day summit is set to feature around 250+ speakers from around the world, and more than 4000 attendees are expected to participate. The list of sponsors for the Consensus 2018 is just as endless.
The conference agenda will consist of demos, workshops, sponsored sessions, discussions by experts, and plenty of networking breaks to talk EVERYTHING about blockchain technology and cryptocurrencies, highlighting developments, innovations, and regulatory issues affecting the crypto-sphere. Consensus 2018 will also hold a Blockchain job fair on the last day.
But, it isn’t all talk and no play- a Proof-of-Work Pitch competition organized will have the finalists present their product at the Consensus 2018, with the winner team taking home the $15,000 grand prize! Consensus 2018 is also hosting a Building Blocks Hackathon. The best ‘smart contract’ will have the chance to avail prizes of up to $30,000 plus sponsor goodies, in-kind awards, and coverage for their new creation at CoinDesk.
Registration for the event is a bit costly, and enlists different prices for industrial startups, enterprises, governmental institutions, and academia. (Late registrations will see ticket prices increasing by $500!).
Over the years, the Consensus event has only grown in attendance; with only 400 people attending the Consensus 2015, the past year saw a record attendance of about 2700 participants. In retrospect, Consensus not only managed to pull a large crowd, but also had a mighty influence on the crypto market. For instance, on the evening of Consensus 2017, Bitcoin sky-rocketed to $10,000! We’re hopeful that history will repeat itself to bring a bullish trend for crypto this year.
However, in a sudden turn of recent events, whiz-kid Vitalik Buterin, the creator of Ethereum, said on Twitter that he was boycotting Consensus 2018 and urged others to do the same. He gave four reasons as to why:
1) CoinDesk had published a URL to a scam regarding an OmiseGO airdrop.
2) CoinDesk had written an article that suggested Ethereum might split even after the rejection of EIP999.
3) Exorbitant ticket prices of the Consensus 2018.
4) Off the record reporting.
After this, OmiseGO, too, decided not to attend the Consensus 2018 in tweet posted on April 26. CoinDesk has since then updated the article to remove the fraudulent link, and revised the other offending post. CoinDesk also indicated that the cost was lower for individuals that had booked earlier.
Whether this event makes it or breaks it, only time will tell…
